Communication

Image result for communication

My mother was the inspiration for me to become a teacher. Even seeing the long hours and stress she took on, I saw her reap the rewards of seeing her students' faces light up and seeing them celebrate their successes. A huge part of this was her communication and collaboration with her parents and even with her students. She gave out her personal cell phone number for both her parents and her scholars to communicate with her at any given time. There were many nights she spent sitting at the kitchen table, with a copy of the homework she had given in her hand, walking her student through the problem to ensure it was done correctly. When it came to handling diversity within her classroom, she always ensured she had a translator help her with her parent newsletter so that even her Hispanic families could understand what was going on in her class. By making herself available to her families and students, she showed that their success meant everything to her and it paid off through the success of her students as many graduated with academic scholarships. Having watched her through all of this, I realize how important communication is and even something as simple as giving your number out for homework help, pushed her kids into knowing how much a teacher cared for them and how much she believed in their potential. It is my goal to ensure I am this type of educator so that every one of my students feels loved and receives the help they need and for every family to know that I am there to help.

  1. I enjoyed your post. Mothers are out first teachers from birth it's great to here how she has inspired you to follow in her footsteps. I have all boys. My son's are very competitive. I'm striving to complete my Masters in order to motivate them to do better than moma. It's really fun proving to them that they should be smarter than me. I predict that my son's will become teachers also.

  2. I enjoyed reading your post. I agree I have also learned a lot from my mother. She showed me how to be the caring person that I am today. If it wasn't for her, I might not have turned out the way I have become. Thank you for sharing.

  3. It is really an amazing post. I am one of the people that believes that mothers play a huge role in shaping our lives. My mum also taught me how to be respectful, confident and also believe in myself from a very tender age, and this trait is so evident in me when relating and communicating with people.
    Great Post!!!

  4. I think it is so amazing that your mom was the one who inspired you to become a teacher. It seems that you both share the same values in regards to communication. It is very trusting that your mom gives out her cell number to students. I had a teacher in ninth great who I formed a very close relationship with. She id definitely one of the people who inspired me to pursue teaching working with children.
    Great post!

  5. I love this post. My mom was also a teacher and has inspired me in many ways. She was always a big motivator in be becoming a teacher. She treats her students as they are her own and has even fostered one of her students to keep them from entering into foster care when the parents were arrested.
